Hustle And Bustle

The piece is written for five instruments (Ake, Harma, Piperola, Player Piano and Vibi) of the M&M robot orchestra, Logos Foundation Ghent (Belgium).

Floating tempo change and metric modulation depending on that induce the impression of slipping slopes on which the instruments' voices entangle into each other. The music develops from processing an acoustic input by the application of compositional rules. The harmonic spectrum of a sound mixture produced for this purpose affects the melodic progression of the instrumental voices the musical properties of which were configured beforehand. Rhythmics and metrics develop from the superordinated accelerations and decelerations.

Hustle And Bustle is dedicated to the Initiative Music and Informatics Cologne (GIMIK). The composition was produced during the preparations for the festival COMPUTING MUSIC IV - fifty years of computer music (Cologne, 2006).
